About Me

Hello, and Welcome

Professional portrait of website author with short gray hair and glasses in front of bookshelves.

I’m so glad you’re here. If you’ve ever carried a story that felt too heavy or too complicated to share, this space was created with you in mind.

My name is Bridget Alegra, and I am the creator of Art Expression Narrative: Where Silent Stories Find a Voice.

My Story

For many years, I worked as a counselor supporting children and families facing difficult life circumstances. I hold a master’s degree in clinical psychology and spent part of my professional career working with children in a domestic violence shelter in Montgomery, Alabama. Through these experiences, I saw both the vulnerability and the remarkable resilience children carry.

Where This Journey Began

But the roots of this blog are not only professional.

My father’s felony profoundly influenced my childhood. Like many children growing up in complicated family situations, I remember the imposed silence, my confusion, and the feeling that some stories seemed too difficult to talk about or better left unsaid.

Those early experiences stayed with me throughout my adulthood and shaped my desire to understand, support, and give voice to stories that are often left unspoken.

Now, in retirement, this blog has become another way for me to continue providing education and support to adults who grew up with an incarcerated parent and to children currently experiencing parental incarceration.

Why This Space Exists

Art Expression Narrative was created as a place where experiences that have long remained silent can find expression.

Art has a unique ability to give form to feelings that words cannot always hold. Through this platform, creative expression, memories, emotions, and personal narratives can be shared with honesty and compassion.

This space is meant to be educational, reflective, and deeply human.

Shame and blame have no place here.

What You Will Find Here

  • Stories and insights about growing up with parental incarceration
  • Gentle reflections on silence, resilience, and healing
  • Educational resources for adults
  • A compassionate community where your experiences are honored

My hope is that as you explore these pages, you feel supported, encouraged, and reminded that your story matters deeply.

A Community of Support

Many adults carry painful experiences that were never fully acknowledged or understood. Because of this, art and reflection can become powerful ways to share our experiences and support one another in meaningful and creative ways. Together, we create a space where silence is replaced with connection.

Thank you for being here. I hope this space helps you feel seen, understood, and less alone. Most of all, may this be a place where you feel held, understood, and reminded that healing is never something you have to do alone.
